High Speed WAN: Traditional and Emerging Technologies
This session is designed for Service Providers and Enterprises that are transitioning their Wide Area Networks (WAN) from traditional TDM and POS technologies to Ethernet and OTN. The goal is to provide attendees with enough information to understand what changes when networks start using the latest high-speed interface technologies based on Ethernet and OTN in routers and switches when compared against more traditional options. The content includes an overview of traditional technologies - Packet over SONET/SDH (POS), 10GE LAN-PHY and WAN-PHY; overview of newer technologies - 40GE/100GE, G.709 OTN and hybrid OTN+Ethernet. It will compare and explain the difference between these technologies in various aspects including OAM capabilities, failure detection mechanisms, protocol overhead efficiencies looking at line rates versus packet throughput and interoperability with transport networks.
