LISP - A Next Generation Networking Architecture

LISP is a network architecture and set of protocols that utilises a level of indirection to separate an IP address into two namespaces: Endpoint Identifiers (EIDs), which are assigned to end-hosts, and Routing Locators (RLOCs), which are assigned to devices (primarily routers) that make up the global routing system. In addition to helping solve routing scalability issues, LISP provides many other benefits, including: simplified and cost-effective multi-homing, including ingress traffic engineering; IP address (host) mobility, including session persistence across mobility events; IPv6 transition simplification, including incremental deployment of IPv6 using existing IPv4 infrastructure (or IPv4 over IPv6); and Operation and network simplification.
